Coming Summer 2027
The Independent Journal of Religious Research is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to the academic study of religion, theology, religious history, the Ancient Near East, First and Second Temple Judaism, Christianity, and related fields. Founded to provide a rigorous and accessible platform for independent researchers, graduate students, and emerging scholars, the journal seeks to promote high-quality scholarship evaluated on the basis of evidence, methodology, and intellectual contribution rather than institutional affiliation or professional status.
The journal welcomes a wide range of perspectives and methodologies, including historical, textual, archaeological, theological, sociological, anthropological, literary, and interdisciplinary approaches. Its mission is to foster thoughtful scholarly dialogue, encourage original research, and provide a venue where serious academic work can be assessed through a fair and rigorous peer-review process.
The Independent Journal of Religious Research is committed to academic freedom, intellectual honesty, and respectful scholarly engagement. The journal does not endorse any particular religious, theological, ideological, or political position. While every effort is made to ensure sound scholarship and responsible editorial judgment, the views expressed in published works are solely those of the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors, reviewers, editorial board, or publisher.
By creating opportunities for scholars whose work may otherwise receive limited visibility within traditional academic publishing, the journal seeks to broaden participation in religious studies and contribute meaningfully to ongoing scholarly conversations.
